On the trail of hobbits at the Tolkien exhibition
Published on 5 November 2019, dans Exhibitions
Epic high-fantasy will be in the spotlight during your stay at the Grand Hotel Saint-Michel this autumn thanks to the Tolkien exhibition at the BNF (Bibliothèque Nationale de France) until February 16th, 2020. It’s a wonderful opportunity to discover the secrets behind the brilliant creativity of the famous author of The Lord of the Rings.
Tolkien: A Journey to Middle-earth
The BNF invites you to take a trip to Middle-earth. Follow in the footsteps of heroes such as Frodo, Aragorn and Gandalf via a journey into the continent imagined by J.R.R. Tolkien in the first half of the 20th century as a setting for his fantasy fiction. The exhibition is based around many authentic documents from the personal archives of the writer and his family. Various drawings, maps and watercolours reveal the way the author gradually shaped a painstakingly detailed imaginary world. From the elven forest of Lorien to The Shire of the Hobbits, Rohan and terrifying Mordor, you’ll take a trip to meet some amazing creatures.
See another side of the writer at the Tolkien exhibition
The BNF has taken the opportunity to offer a retrospective of the writer. It recounts the life of JRR Tolkien from his youth to his death in 1973. From vintage photographs and audio recordings, the exhibition traces the writer's experiences in the British army during World War I, as well as his years at Oxford as a student and a teacher. With more than 300 documents and other artefacts, the BNF's aim is to familiarise the public with the life of a writer who has reached new heights of popularity due to the movie adaptations of his works. With its free or guided tours, conferences and workshops for children, the whole family can enjoy this cultural event. To add to your BNF experience, please feel free to ask for our further suggestions for activities in Paris.
