Romantic walks near the hotel
Nestled in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, the Grand Hotel Saint-Michel is close to some beautiful parks and gardens that lend themselves well to a romantic walk, hand in hand.
The Jardin des Plantes deserves the name of "Jardin extraordinaire", as immortalised in Charles Trenet’s song. This huge botanical garden of 24 hectares in the heart of Paris was designed in the 17th century at the request of King Louis XIII. It houses a rose garden, an iris garden and offers the visitor an incredible variety of plants, exceptional trees and botanical species from around the world.
In the heart of the Latin Quarter, between the Boulevard Saint-Germain and the busy Sorbonne district, you can find the medieval garden of the Cluny Museum. Here, the Jardin d'Amour offers you its banquettes for a quiet kiss and cuddle while plants such as mint, sage and lemon balm pay homage to medieval medicine, and the vegetable garden is a riot of gourmet delights. The last part of the garden is reserved for celestial flowers such as the rose, the lily or the violet, symbol of the Virgin Mary.
The Grand Hotel Saint-Michel’s location in the 5th arrondissement is ideal to discover the Arènes de Lutèce, an amphitheatre built by the Romans in the 1st century AD and rediscovered in 1869 during Baron Haussmann’s reconfiguration of Paris. Take the opportunity to explore the Latin Quarter, with its echoes of medieval Paris and unmissable masterpieces such as the Hôtel de Cluny, the churches of Saint-Séverin and Saint-Etienne-du-Mont, as well as picturesque old streets such as the Rue de la Huchette and Rue de la Bûcherie.
