Published on 5 May 2019, dans Visit Paris
The love affair between Paris and cycling is an enduring one. So, it’s only natural that we recommend discovering on two wheels the many attractions of one of the most beautiful capitals in the world. Opt for a self-service bike rental and participate in the next Fête du Vélo (bike festival), scheduled for June 2nd, 2019.
Paris is even better by bike
The City of Light is ideal for exploring by bicycle. Its world-famous landmarks and picturesque streets rich in secret stories will take you freewheeling back in time.
A cycling friendly capital
Paris has developed and maintains an extensive cycling network involving more than 200 km of routes and 70 km of lanes reserved specially for bicycles. You can join the free group rides organised by the Paris Rando association. Participants meet up on the 3rd Sunday of every month and on Friday evenings in front of the Hôtel de Ville to enjoy a two-hour ride. The itinerary is revealed on the day. You can take advantage of the self-service bike sharing system set up by the Paris city authority. More than 1,800 Vélib stations throughout the capital have bicycles available for hire 24/7.
Bike Festival on the first Sunday of June
Cyclists; make a note in your calendar of June 2nd, 2019. That’s the date when you’re invited to participate in the celebration of cycling organised by Mieux se Déplacer à Bicyclette (Better to ride a bicycle), the principal cycling association of the Île-de-France region. Free and open to all, this family friendly event provides several tours setting off from various points around Paris. You can also join one of these merry and colourful rides along the way. It’s not a race, but all routes converge on the Esplanade des Invalides, where a giant picnic takes place. Remember to prepare your lunch basket!
